The Laysan Finch historically is a natural population on Laysan Island and introduced population on Pearl and Hermes Atoll, and Nihoa Finch has a natural population on Nihoa Island. Introduced populations of Laysan Finches on Midway Atoll and Nihoa Finches on French Frigate Shoals are extirpated.
